Introduction

Lupus or SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) is an Auto-immune disorder that affects body's immune system which attacks tissues and organs and entire system. Inflammation affects various body systems like bone joints, kidneys, skin, brain, heart and lungs. Some people may be born with the vulnerability to develop Lupus and it triggers due to infections, certain drugs or sunlight.

Symptoms

A peculiar butterfly shaped rash on cheeks and nose, and also rashes in other body parts. There is Fever, Headache, fatigue, Joint Pain, Stiffness and Swelling, Skin rashes that worsen in sunlight, Chest Pain, Shortness of Breath, Memory loss etc. As such no two cases may show same symptoms.

Diagnosis of Lupus/ Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

is not easy. Certain symptoms may mimic other neurological disorders. However, the Neurologist may perform Blood and Urine Tests, Kidney and Liver Assessment, Chest X-ray, Echocardiogram and Biopsy for a diagnosis.

Prognosis of SLE

Lupus or Systemic Lupus Erythematosus can have many Associated Co-morbidities that influence the outcome of the treatment.
